A characteristic template is the set of Characteristic rows a record fills. Lines are the link table CharacteristicTemplateLine, shown as a tab on this card. Option values are not stored here; they hang off the characteristic.

Name is required. ID comes from CharacteristicTemplateSeq, which starts at 1000 and steps by 1. Empty Based on is a standalone template. A filled base puts that template's lines first; this template adds lines or overrides a line of the same characteristic.

The list is CharacteristicTemplateLine, caption Template lines. It is opened on this card and is not a separate menu item.

Template and Characteristic are required. Key characteristics name the SKU. Role 0 is a property on the item; 1 is a line parameter on the order line. Section is leftover text; Section (SectionRef) is the dictionary heading. An empty template on the item is inherited from its ItemGroup, then from the parent groups up the tree. Required warns; it does not block save. Characteristics do not split stock.
Option values (CharacteristicOption) belong to the Characteristic card, not to this template. There is no second catalog card for options.
This dictionary is not hierarchical. There are no commands. This dictionary writes no register.
