Create a unit of measure

Updated

Create a unit of measure when a quantity needs a name: a piece, a kilogram, a box. Saving the card stores the unit; it does not put quantity on a warehouse.

Note

Saving a unit posts no stock. A box's size is not on this card — it lives on the item in Item units. How a pack counts is Units and packaging.

How to#

To create a unit of measure, open Ribbon → Common → Dictionaries → Units of measure.

Press New. Fill Name. Code can stay empty; when filled it is 16 characters. Unit class can stay empty. Ratio to base unit empty or 0 means this unit does not convert by class — Box and Pallet on the stand are stored that way. Gram is 1, kilogram is 1000, tonne is 1000000. Empty Decimal places (quantity precision) uses 3; Piece is 0, kilogram is 3. Save. The row is in Units of measure, and ID is issued and read-only. Stock stays as it is.

Unit class names the quantity kind. Open Ribbon → Common → Dictionaries → Unit classes when you need Count, Mass, or Length first. Conversion works only inside one class.

On a later item, pick this unit in Unit — Create an item. How many base units sit in one box is Item units, not this card.

Example

The stand already has Piece, Kilogram, Box, and Pallet.

  • Name Carton
  • Code CTN
  • Unit class Count
  • Ratio to base unit empty
  • Decimal places (quantity precision) 0

Save. The list shows Carton. Stock is still zero. How many pieces sit in one carton is set on the item in Item units, not here.

Tip

Create the Unit class first if the picker is empty. Do not put a box size on this card: a box of 12 and a box of 6 share the same Box unit; each item has its own Item units row.

You expected stock after Save Stock moves on a document, not on this card.
