Fill tax rates

Updated

Record the fraction that applies to a tax from a date. Invoices pick the live window by tax, category, and date. This card does not post tax.

Note

The live rate is the tax-rate history by tax and date. The Tax rate field on a tax code is a historical bind. Calculation does not read it.

How to#

To fill tax rates, open Ribbon → Tax → Dictionaries → Tax rates.

Press New. Fill Tax, Code, Rate, and Effective from. Rate is a fraction: 0.20 is 20%. Leave Tax category empty for the tax's default rate, or pick a category when this tax runs several rates at once (Ukraine 20% and 7% VAT (ПДВ) side by side). Leave Effective to empty to keep the window open, or set the last day this fraction applies. Save. The window is stored.

There is no posting button on this card. Save stores the rate. Tax on an invoice is written later, when that invoice posts.

Example

  • Tax VAT
  • Rate 0.20
  • Effective from 1 Jan 2026
  • Effective to empty
  • Tax category empty

Rate 0.20 is 20%. A later sale of 100 uses this window: tax is 100 × 0.20 = 20.

Save. A later reduced window at 0.07 (7%) needs its own Tax category. Two open windows of the same tax and category are refused. Tax on the same 100 at 0.07 is 100 × 0.07 = 7.

Rate Fraction Tax on 100
Standard 0.20 20
Reduced 0.07 7

Tip

Close the previous window with Effective to before you open a new fraction in the same category. Empty Tax category is the default for codes that have no rate of their own.
