Create an item group
Updated
Create an item group when items should sit in a folder of the item tree, like a shop: Paints → Interior. Every item names one group; create at least one group before the first item. A group can also give its items a characteristic template.
Note
An item uses its own Characteristic template first. If that is empty, it uses Template for its items of its group, then of the parent group, walking up the tree. Fill the template on the top group of a branch; a subgroup needs one only when its items differ.
How to#
There are two ways to create a group.
From Item groups. Open Ribbon → Inventory → Dictionaries → Item groups. Press New. Fill Code and Name. Code must be unique. Pick Parent when this group hangs under another group; leave Parent empty for a top-level group. Template for its items can wait. Save. The group is in the tree, and ID is issued from 1000 and is read-only.
From the Items list. Open Ribbon → Inventory → Dictionaries → Items. The left pane is the item-group tree. Select a group and press New (the green plus on that pane) to add a child under it. Parent is already the group you selected. Fill Code and Name, then Save. The new group appears under that parent. The grid on the right shows items of the selected group and of groups under it. The root folder Item groups shows every item.
Example
- Code Grocery
- Name Grocery
- Parent empty
Save. ID is 1000 if this is the first group. On Items, the left tree shows Grocery. Select Grocery and press New on that pane: Parent is already Grocery.
Tip
The plus on the left of Items creates a group, not an item. New on the right-hand grid creates an item in the selected group.
