Fill a routing

Updated

Fill a routing when a product needs shop-floor steps before you release a production order. The card holds Sequence, Work center, Setup minutes, and Run minutes / unit for each step. It is not the day-by-day schedule.

Note

Filling a routing does not release components and does not receive the product. Expand bill of materials on a Draft production order copies the routing onto that order. Confirming a shift is Confirm operations.

How to#

To fill a routing, open Ribbon → Production → Dictionaries → Routings.

Press New. Fill Name and Product. Save. The card receives an ID and stays in the list.

On Operations, add the steps in order. For each row fill Sequence, Name, Work center, Setup minutes, and Run minutes / unit. Save. Sequence is unique on this routing and starts at 1.

The first live routing for a product is the one the order uses, the same rule as the bill of materials. Tick Disabled when this routing must not be copied.

Then open a Draft production order for that Product and press Expand bill of materials. Operations appear on the order. If there is no routing, the order still expands — just without operations. Releasing and finishing still consume the material and receive the product.

There is no post button on the routing. Save stores the recipe. Until Expand bill of materials has run on a Draft, a production order has no operations to confirm.

Example

  • Name Assembly
  • Product Office Starter Kit

On Operations:

  • Sequence 1
  • Name Assembly
  • Work center Assembly bench
  • Setup minutes 10
  • Run minutes / unit 16

Save. After Expand bill of materials on a Draft order for that product, Operations shows that step. Confirm operations later fills Actual minutes from Setup minutes plus Run minutes.

Tip

Routing operations is also on Ribbon → Production → Dictionaries, but the usual place to edit steps is the Operations list on the routing card. Rates that cost labour live on the work center or the operator's position (Hourly rate), not on this card.
