Create a customer type

Updated

Create a customer type when a buyer class is missing from the customer card. Saving stores Code and Name; a later customer picks this type.

Note

Save writes no customer and no debt. The field on the customer is Customer type. A new Code is a new type — Create a customer.

How to#

To create a customer type, open Ribbon → Sales → Dictionaries → Customer types.

Press New. Fill Code and Name. Save. The card receives an ID, and the row appears in Customer types. No customer is stored and no debt is written.

Code is unique and at most 8 characters. Other cards compare Code trimmed and without regard to case: Business and BUSINESS are the same code. An empty Name is filled from Code on Save. Do not change Code after the row is stored; create a new type instead.

Typical codes are Business, Consumer, and Retail. Create them here when the customer card does not already show those names.

Then open Ribbon → Sales → Dictionaries → Customers and pick this type in Customer type — Create a customer.

Example

  • Code Business
  • Name Business

Save. Repeat with Code Consumer / Name Consumer, and Code Retail / Name Retail. A later customer picks one of these in Customer type. There is still no customer and no debt.

Tip

Leave Name empty and Save copies Code into Name. If Code is already used, open that type, or pick another Code. Customers and loyalty campaigns keep a copy of Code, so a saved code does not change.
