ItemGroup
Updated
A group in the item tree — the one tree items are sorted into, like a shop: Paints → Interior. An item belongs to one group. The tree is hierarchical: a group may hang off another group. A group is also where items get their characteristic template.

Template inheritance#
An item's characteristic template is resolved in this order; the first filled one wins:
- the item's own Characteristic template (
Item.CharacteristicTemplate); - Template for its items on the item's group;
- Template for its items on the parent group, then its parent, up to the top of the tree.
An empty Template for its items on a subgroup is therefore inherited from the parent group. Fill the template on the top group of a branch; subgroups need it only when they differ. A group has no characteristics of its own: the field names the template for the items under it.
