Work with a document in the Nova layout
Updated
On a document card in the Nova layout, the document's workflow is drawn as numbered steps above the form, and the next step is one filled button in the toolbar. The other commands wait behind More.
Note
The state of a document is not chosen on the card. The command button moves it. The steps only show where the document is: pressing a step does nothing. Until you press the command, the document stays in its state, however often you save it.
How to#
To open a document, open a list in the Nova layout — for example Sales orders — and double-click a row, or press Edit on the row. See Work with a list in the Nova layout.
The title of a saved document is its number. Next to it sit a chip with the current state (the colour follows the place in the workflow) and the date. When you change a field and have not saved yet, the word modified appears next to the chip; it goes away after Save. Back to the list is at the left of the title.
Above the form is the status stepper (the label of its list is Document status). Each state of the workflow is a numbered circle with its name. States already passed are tinted in the accent colour, the current one is filled with it and has a soft ring, the rest are plain grey. States outside the main path — a cancelled or rejected outcome — follow after the word or as pills; the one the document is in is lit.
On the right of the toolbar is the primary button: filled, with the command's name. It is the first command available in the current state, normally the next step of the workflow. Press it. A command that asks for confirmation or for parameters opens its dialog first. When it succeeds, the card reloads, the stepper moves one step on, and the primary button becomes the next command.
To the left of it, the toolbar can show one more command as a plain button. The filled button is a split button: its arrow on the right opens the other commands (the arrow is named More for screen readers and on hover). When the card has no filled command, a plain More button takes its place. Open the arrow and the commands are grouped under Record actions, Status transitions, and Service. When only one group is present, its title is not shown. A command that cannot run is greyed out.
Under the form's header, on the right, the card has a column of grey cards: the widgets a model placed beside the form (for example the order totals) and, when there are any, the panel Related documents: the other documents in the same chain, for example the realization created from an order. Each entry has a caption and a line with the document type, number, and date. Press it to open that document on its own tab. A document with neither has no column, and the form uses the full width.
To get the old toolbar back, open Settings → General → Commands on a card and press Buttons (every command is a button, from the sixth on behind …) or One button (a single Commands drop-down). Primary button is the Nova look. In the Nova layout it is used until you choose another; in the Ribbon layout Buttons is used until you choose Primary button. Lists always use the drop-down.
Example
You save a new sales order. It is Draft. The stepper reads 1 Draft (filled), 2 Submitted, 3 Approved. The primary button is Submit order.
Press Submit order. The chip changes to Submitted, circle 1 turns green, circle 2 is filled, and the primary button becomes Approve order. Press it: the chip reads Approved, circles 1 and 2 are green, circle 3 is filled.
If Confirm order on submit is on, the first press approves the order at once, as in Approve an order.
Tip
The primary button is the command that comes first in the command order of the card. If it is not the step you expect, ask whoever configures the stand to reorder the commands; there is no separate "main command" mark.
If the command refuses#
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| There is no stepper on the card | The document type has no states defined. The card works without it. |
| The stepper shows every state in a row, with no or pills | The workflow has no allowed transitions recorded, so all states are shown in display order. |
| There are no command buttons on a new document | Commands appear after the first Save: the toolbar shows them only for a saved document. |
| The command you need is not a button | Open the arrow on the filled button (More). A command that is not there either is not allowed for your role or is not bound to this state. Saving again will not show it. |
| The card shows every command as a button, not the Nova look | Commands on a card is set to Buttons. Press Primary button under Settings → General. |
| No Related documents panel | The document has no linked documents yet. The panel appears once a linked document exists. |
